Questions

How much does it cost to keep an LLC each year?

The state report fee runs from nothing (6 states have no annual report) to $500 a year in Massachusetts. The median across all states is $30 a year. Mainstay Filing, our best overall pick, files the report for you as part of its $199 yearly price; the state fee is extra.

Which states have no annual report?

Alabama, Arizona, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio and South Carolina. Some still have a tax or notice; see each state page.

What are biennial reports?

7 states ask for a report every two years instead of every year: Alaska, California, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and New York.

What happens if I miss the due date?

Many states add a late fee, listed on the late-fee page, and some may dissolve the company after repeated misses. Mainstay Filing sends reminders and files on time.

Is the state report the only yearly cost?

No. Some states also charge a franchise or minimum tax (California, Rhode Island and Kentucky, for example). Each state page lists the recurring costs we have verified.
